The Calabogie 55+ Club is chartered by and affiliated with the United Senior Citizens of Ontario (USCO). We are an active social club with 167 members that meet on the last Thursday of each month. Our dinner meetings are either catered, potluck or held at local restaurants in the area.
Membership is open to anyone 55 and over and a resident or ex-resident of the Township of Greater Madawaska or fringe areas. A member’s spouse who has not reached the age of 55 may also join as an associate member. The annual membership fee is $15.00.
Our Club is a great place to meet friends and socialize. It is the catalyst for activities of interest and community engagement.
Throughout the year, Club members organize arts & crafts, exercise classes, bowling, cards – bridge, concerts, workshops, gardening, walking groups, skating parties, golf, road trips, hikes, museum tours, dinners, dancing sessions and more.
We are a group of volunteers who enjoy having fun and contributing to the community.

About Calabogie 55+ Club
Calabogie 55+ Club is dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors through a variety of programs and activities designed to foster social interaction, personal growth, and community service. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where members can enjoy their golden years with dignity and joy. We are committed to making a positive impact in the community by organizing events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities that bring people together and celebrate the wisdom and contributions of our senior members.
Many of our club members are actively involved in various community projects and events and take great pride in their contribution to our community. For example:
Township of Greater Madawaska Committees – club members volunteer their time on several Township Committees: Barnet Park Committee, Beautification Committee, Trails Committee, and the Economic Development Committee.
Canada Day, July 1st – club members are actively involved in the annual Canada Day festivities, assisting in games and with donations at the entry gates.
Barnet Park Garden/Butterfly Garden – Calabogie 55+ Club members look after the Butterfly Garden at Barnet Park by mulching, fertilizing, weeding, deadheading and transplanting perennials. We occasionally help out with the other gardens at the park.
Gale McRae and Joanne Levinsky have volunteered to lead this project in 2024. Volunteers are always welcome. No experience is necessary.
Remembrance Day – Cenotaph in Calabogie – well attended in past years by club members and the community. Our club has traditionally purchased, and a member has laid a wreath for the Calabogie 55+ Club—special thanks to John Watts for coordinating this event.
Food Bank – 150 pairs of socks were collected at the Club’s Christmas dinner meeting.
Bogie Lights – (coordinated by Jean Libbey)
This annual Community Event held at Heritage Point is organized and hosted by the Calabogie 55+ Club on the third Friday of November.
The members put Christmas lights on trees, the heritage building and wooden candy canes on the lawn. During the Celebration of turning on the lights, we sing Christmas songs, the club serves hot chocolate, apple cider and cookies baked by our members, and there is a campfire for marshmallow roasting. A student from the Calabogie School turns on the lights after the countdown. Anyone may attend.
Santa Claus Parade – (Coordinated by Lorna Johnston) – More than 15 club members are actively involved in the design, creation and parade participation of our club’s annual Santa Claus Parade float. Our floats have always placed exceptionally well in the float judging ….. 2nd place for the Smurfs in 2017, 1st place in 2018 with “Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen”; 2nd place in 2019 with “The Grinch that Stole Christmas”; a tie for 1st place in 2021 with “Toyland” following a parade hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic; 2nd place for “At the Hop” in 2022 and 2nd place again in 2023 for “The Nutcracker”.
